Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!

So many business owners likely entered the equestrian world because of your love for horses. You truly enjoy what you do for horses and their people.

However, it can be eas to forget that if you want to do this thing you love for the long term, in other words to build a sustainable horse business, then it needs to be treated like a business. (Not a hobby.)

That does not mean you have to build up a large team or scale it in a certain pre-determined way that doesn't fit with your priorities. If you want to build a team and scale your business, by all means, go for it.

The key is, that you own the fact that you’re a business owner. And, even more, that you learn to embrace your role as the CEO of your horse business.

In this episode, Kelly Giordano with Avenue Equestrian will help you see the importance of being the visionary for your business and give you practical ways you can embrace your role as CEO in your horse business—starting today.

5 Ways to Embrace Your CEO Role for Horse Business Success

  1. Give yourself permission to dream big and think big.

CEOs are the visionaries for their business. Spend time dreaming with no boundaries, considering things that seem crazy or outrageous on the surface. You've already done the hard part of making a business. Remember, it can be anything you want it to be.

  2. Set and review business goals.

First, intentionally set long-term and short-term goals for your business. Then, Intentionally set aside time at least once a month to review your goals. Ask yourself if the goals that you created still in alignment with what you want. Have they changed? Are you making progress? What needs to change in order for you to make progress?

  3. Plan and prioritize your goals into action steps.

That is what a CEO does in bigger companies—acknowledge there may be competing priorities, determine what’s most important, and lead everyone in the same direction. As the CEO of your horse business, you take the lead. Be sure your priorities are grounded in the definition of success for your business, not what culture or social media says about your priorities.

  4. Clarify expectations.

How do you expect team members to interact with customers? With each other? What are the expectations when it comes to time management, horse care, customer care, etc.? As the CEO, it’s your role to set the stage.

  5. Set and communicate boundaries.

As the CEO, it can be tempting to work in and on your business 24/7. But, to build a sustainable horse business that will be around for the long term, you need to do it in a way that allows you to thrive as a person, family member, and business owner.

Of course, you'll want to listen to the full episode to dig into each of the insights shared and discover how you can apply each one in your horse business!
