For many horse business owners, when they think of sales the word pushy or sales comes up.
In episode 168 I used the analogy of a used car salesman – it’s that ick factor that makes you feel awkward as soon as you start selling.
Yet, as an equestrian business, you need to make sales to stay in business. That’s true whether you offer an equine product or service.
That means that as an equestrian entrepreneur, you need to strengthen your sales-building skills.
But, is it possible for sales to feel natural, even if you hate it right now?
Yes! In this episode, you’ll learn 3 simple ways you can sell more without feeling salesy.
These tips will help you as an equestrian entrepreneur to sell more confidently on social media, website, email, and in person.
3 Simple Ways for Equestrian Entrepreneurs to Sell More
Sell from a place of service.
The good news is that selling well isn’t about pushing—it’s about serving.
So, how do you sell while serving?
Look for ways to provide value before you make the ask.
For example, when it comes to social media and email marketing, employ the 80/20 rule. With 80% of your content focus on just giving value and then with the other 20% make the ask
When you provide value you are building trust with your audience. And, the more people trust you (and that what you’re selling is going to be valuable to them), the more likely they are to buy from you.
Understand buyer psychology.
The goal here is not to focus on understanding so you can “twist their arm” to buy. The goal is to better understand your audience. Then, you can craft content and conversations that meet them where they are.
The key to understanding buyer psychology is understading the buyer journey.
3 Phases of the Buyer Journey = Awareness → Consideration → Decision
How do you apply this to selling? If someone is in the problem awareness phase and you’re pressing them to make a decision, that’ll feel pushy for them and sales for you.
What if they aren’t even aware they have a problem and you’re trying to sell? That’s an ick factor moment because it’s more about you than them.
But, if you first talk to them about their problems and then talk to them about what they’ve already tried that hasn’t worked and then offer your product or service then provide a bonus or incentive to purchase? That is a more natural flow.
And because you’ve already settled that you’re there to serve, that external pressure you’re both feeling is removed.
Make it easy.
For some horse businesses, people are ready to buy what you have. Yet because you’ve made the process so complicated they leave because it takes too much energy or thought to make the purchase.
For example, your website is unclear on the next step they should take to work with you. Your checkout process is too lengthy and time-consuming. And,
If they have to do the work themselves, they’ll be gone before you even know they’re there.
Ask yourself these 3 questions to evaluate your buying process:
How many steps are there in the buying process?
Where can your buying process be simplified?
How can you make it easy to work with you so it’s seamless and even enjoyable?
How do you make it easy? By knowing your audience!
That's why knowing your audience is the first step to the effective marketing strategy you'll learn in my FREE guide. 👇
