Ever feel torn between wanting to share those special holiday moments on your social media and the temptation to leave your phone off and pretend like social media doesn't exist? Try this.
Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!
As we head into this season, the question becomes, how much do you share on social media as a horse business owner?
Should you still keep your posting cadence and be in your stories and engaging with your people online? Or, should you set your phone down and walk away from it for a bit so you can be present with the people you’re physically with?
If you’ve ever felt torn between wanting to share those special holiday moments on your social media and the temptation to leave your phone off and pretend like social media doesn't exist, here’s what you do: Recap.
Do a recap post or stories after it happens, whether it’s that night or the next week.
With a recap, you’re still sharing what you want to share but you are also choosing to be present in the moment.
Here’s how it works: Take the pics or videos of what you want to share and stockpile it for later. Then, create a post or a series of stories with a full recap of all the goods.
The beauty of it? You're still building connections and relationships— in the app and in person.
Essentially, you’re making a plan ahead of time and giving yourself permission to set your phone down.
Plus, you’re releasing yourself from the guilt of feeling like you should be hanging out with online people when you have physical people you love right in front of you.
And, if you need to take it further, go ahead and turn off those app notifications. That way, you aren’t feeling pulled into your phone when you’re trying not to.
Rest assured, I’m not judging anyone who chooses to post during the holidays. I’m simply giving you some options to consider so that you aren’t dealing with an internal struggle of feeling like you should be doing something when you’re not.
One more thought for you in terms of managing the tension of social media and the holidays. Consider this your permission to only share what you want to share, regardless of how much you see everyone else posting every. single. thing.
If you’re someone who generally likes to share all the things, from the first Christmas decoration to the family feast to all the things in between, go for it. (Of course, remember we’re talking about your business account so do it in a way that’ll build connection & conversations with your followers.)
As my mom friend regularly tells her kiddos to build their confidence: You do you.
If you want to share? Do it!
If you want to save it for later? Do it!
If you want to keep all the personal stuff to yourself and take a break from the apps for a bit during the holidays? Do it!
Don’t let fear or comparison be your driver. That’s a sure path to resentment and burnout.
Instead, do social media in a way that feels right for you and is connected to your personal and business goals. And then go enjoy the time with your friends and family.
Of course, you'll want to listen to the full episode to dig into each of the insights shared and discover how you can apply each one in your horse business!
